Chemistry - Mr. Galian |
|
Welcome back! Class of 2013... This year is a special year for everyone - including me! Last year we have learned somethings about life and its relevance to ours. This year we will focus our attention to our physical environment. What is it made of? How do we impact our environment? Why should we care? We will also revisit biology but from a chemist's (biochemistry) point of view. We'll go on a microscopic odyssey and see the relevance of chemistry across the curriculum (english, math, geography, technology - yes english) and your life. Chemistry can be an exciting field of study. BUT, you have to do your research. We have to be environment-friendly if we are to learn chemistry, responsibly. I am looking forward to a year of experimentation, intellectual discussions, field trips, projects and student presentations (from Google docs, PowerPoints, Podcasts, Videos, Webpages, and Prezi presentations). By the way, in order to survive chemistry this year, you will have to pay attention to all your classes this year... {it's a conspiracy, I say...} Please read the webpage orientation below. Cheers!
Top Navigation Bar MY CALENDAR Gives you an overview of homeworks, quizzes, exams, project due dates, and so on. YOU are responsible for taking charge of "knowing" when things are due! Most A+ students plan ahead and start major projects peice by peice to submit quality work. Daily works are based on adhering to the checkpoints timeline. Extra-credit or late work is not considered for a grade. MY LINKS Is your teacher's virtual work area. You are free to look around. e-mail ICON If you want to contact me - you may use this navigation button. Otherwise, my contacts are in my syllabus plus other documentations. home ICON Sends you back to the "home" page.
Side Navigation Bar HOME PAGE Contains the essentials of the class. You are my clients. And therefore, you have the right to see what I have planned for you. It will give you a general idea and a feel for the day or week. It pays to come prepared to class, knowing what to expect. I will also include some surprise activities to train you how to adapt to certain "unforseen" circumstances. LESSON PLANS These are official documents that I submit to my boss. AGENDA Contains the planned activities listed per week. Always come prepared to class. I will also upload the necessary documents for you just in case. CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT Contains the resources for both teachers and students to perform their activities inside the classroom. These are the main resources that will always be used inside Mr. Galian's class; class timer, Google Docs, Prezi, and Class Documents. CLASS TIMER The class timer is used for timed events like warm ups, quizzes, exams, etc. GOOGLE DOCS In line with this year's "Think Green Chemistry", we are minimizing our use of paper. The main relevance of technology is not merely to entertain or cater to our convenience and wants, but to benefit our environment as we move towards sustainable progress in technology. Submit your articles, critiques, essays, research drafts and papers, etc. online. (Make sure you have a google account - mandatory) PREZI PRESENTATIONS State of the art presentations - a cool alternative to the PowerPoint presentations. Please follow the protocols set in class on how to use this account. Thanks! CLASS DOCUMENTS Is a document resource link for all your documentations in Mr. Galian's chemistry class. Documents such as Syllabus, Chemistry Survival Guide, Study Guides, and Test Guides (LTF, EOC, ACT, STANFORD, and TAKS) are all included in this link. QUIZZES Site to take your online quizzes. There are no extra-credits for this course. Due dates and deadlines are absolute unless you have a medical condition (doctor's note required). Re-takes are averaged. Based on your performance last year from Biology, you may have been enrolled in Mr. Galian's Study Lab (TESTS) sessions. These are mandatory and requires that you complete the sessions weekly. Thanks.
